OSRAM illuminates the Hacker-Pschorr beer tent with energy-efficient lamps
Raise your glasses to savings - The Oktoberfest saves energy
With over 4,500 energy-efficient lamps, the Hacker beer tent at the 2007 Okto-berfest must surely be the most economical tent at the whole festival. The savings measures taken by the Roiderer family that runs the tent are being supported by Munich's most longstanding light manufacturer - OSRAM - which is supplying the efficient energy-saving, halogen and LED lamps. Thanks to the energy-efficient lighting, the tent stands to save some 18,000 kWh of electricity and over 9,000 kg of CO2 - the equivalent to the volume of some 5 million litre-glasses of beer - and without compromising anything in the way of performance or atmosphere.
Toni Roiderer, beer tent operator, is looking forward to the collaboration: "The Hacker tent introduces something new each year. We invest a lot of time and money in ensuring that our guests feel good in our tent. So we were very pleased when OSRAM offered to advise and support us in the matter of energy-efficient lighting. For every kilowatt hour of electricity saved reduces the CO2 impact on the environment and saves us electricity costs. We're killing two birds with one stone. Although, for us, the most important criterion was that the new lamps should con-tribute to enhancing the pleasant mood and welcoming atmosphere our tent is re-nowned for."
Wolfgang Gregor - responsible for climate protection at OSRAM - adds: "as a Munich-based company, it gives us particularly great pleasure to illuminate a tradi-tional Oktoberfest tent. And this gives us a chance to prove that, in terms of light quality, modern, energy-efficient lamps from OSRAM by no means fall short of the good old light bulb. With a mix of classical energy-saving lamps, our new halogen energy-saving lamps and coloured LED lamps, the Hacker tent will not only be worlds ahead in terms of climate protection, but also in terms of innovation."
Indeed, the Oktoberfest as a whole is set to fall under the spell of innovative LED solutions in the next few years. This year will provide a foretaste. The brand new Autoscooter run by the Distel show family will soon be almost exclusively lit by eco-nomical, long-lasting OSRAM LED modules - thus slashing energy in the long term by 90 per cent. LEDs (light-emitting diodes) are based on tiny luminescent chips, which can produce coloured light particularly efficiently.
